The end-Permian extinction (EPE), the most severe biotic crisis of the Phanerozoic (Wignall, 2015), led to the fundamental restructuring of terrestrial and marine ecosystems. The consensus view is that the EPE occurred as a consequence of Siberian Traps volcanism, which generated large volumes of sulfate aerosols and CO 2 over a …

Oct 13, 2023 · Earthquake early warning (EEW) systems are crucial for mitigating seismic hazards. Current EEW algorithms predominantly rely on seismic data (Allen and Melgar, 2019) and can be classified into three main categories: point‐source, finite‐fault, and ground‐motion‐model based. A compilation of compressional-wave (V p) and shear-wave (V s) velocities and densities for a wide variety of common lithologies is used to define new nonlinear, multivalued, and quantitative relations between these properties for the Earth's crust. The value of information (VOI) metric requires geophysicists to clearly link their measurements to important subsurface parameters in geothermal exploration, such as temperature, permeability, and fluid information.

Based on the abundance of pyroxenites in the melting region of subduction zones as well as the lower solidi temperatures and higher melt productivities of these lithologies compared to peridotite ( Lambart et al., 2013 ), preferential melting of pyroxenite may supply disproportionate volumes of magma to the arc budget, especially at thick ...A total of 5,237 wells was drilled in eastern New Mexico and west Texas during 1979–14.5% more than in 1978. The success rate for all wells was 78.4%, down 0.4% from 1978. The number of exploratory wells drilled was 19.2% higher than in 1978, and total exploratory footage drilled was up 2.9%.It has been recognized for the past century that copper deposits, in common with those of many other metals, are heterogeneously concentrated in Earth’s upper crust, resulting in areally restricted copper provinces that were generated during several discrete metallogenic epochs over time intervals of up to several hundred million years.
