Kimberlites are blue volcanic rocks which tend to be diamondiferous. The word kimberlite is derived from the name of the South African city “Kimberley” which developed near the country’s first significant diamond deposit. Kimberlite rocks are created inside the earth’s crust in the form of perpendicular structures called kimberlite pipes.
