The protest area had several names; the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) was most common at the outset, along with "Free Capitol Hill". By its second week, the area was more often referred to as the Capitol Hill Organized Protest (CHOP). On June 13, a group of several dozen protest leaders agreed to change the name from CHAZ to CHOP.
