Survivors would have to destroy all your 5 hexes, and then you would have to rekindle them. #2. Just play through it. Every match is going to feel this way until you feel more comfy with the killer role in general. It takes time, but eventually, fewer and fewer matches are going to feel totally hopeless. It can help to have a "main" killer and to familiarize yourself with the ins and outs.
