This is similar to what I do, except I am bigger. A block is 5 cells x 5 cells. Originally that is quit a lot of roboports, later it gets down to 4 (bob mod tier 4 roboports) plus possible quite a lot of recharging stations.Apr 19, 2018 · LilyRose's City Block base. Hello everyone ! Some of you may already have seen it from the Reddit post made by Nilaus but I wanted to share my recently finished base here also. •I have spent 40 to 50 hours planning the base on paper. This includes Calculating ratios / Create design / Plan the base and the blocks. Mar 23, 2021 · The Most Perfect City Blocks For Making Your Entire Factory, Everything You Need! Credit To Nilaus.Chunk-aligned rails are easily alignable to the world center (0,0). In order to be chunk-aligned, everything must be in a multiple of 32 blocks, which may or may not always be the most convenient size. But with blueprint grids, you don't have to worry about this! You can place one block, blueprint it, and make a grid.

Every time you build a new “unload” station, immediately drop a train in it. Set the train limit on the station to 1, and then set the schedule for the train to “iron ore load until full cargo, iron ore unload until empty cargo”. You should always have the exact same number of trains for any given item as you have unload stations for it. +1. I waited to do city blocks in space until finishing the tier-4 sciences. And definitely, I almost exclusively used 1-1 trains in space. A dedicated block just making space platform is very nice to have - 50k platform is more than enough for a new large orbital solar farm, or to jumpstart a new orbital base.Chunk-aligned rails are easily alignable to the world center (0,0). Mar 30, 2020 · I am now on my fifth version of a pyramid-inspired city block train world. I call my city-blocks sectors, as to me a city block contains a variety of buildings offering different goods and services, where my sectors have a single purpose. The bottom row of the pyramid contains forges to turn ore into plate, and refineries to turn crude oil into ... The building space was enough for most uses, but it felt like I had to split up a few too many blocks that were slightly too big, and the ratio of tracks to factory was a bit high for my liking. 8x8 might be just enough, but I'd still say more like 10x10 or 11x11 would be better. Reply. Additional comment actions. I working toward a 1000spm mega base, and my base is basically city block style. The way I designed it, a block makes one thing only. For example the Speed Module1 block, I have three train stations. Each station takes up a whole side of the city block. It slows down any individual train but it simplifies fuel delivery and most throughput slowdowns can be mitigated by adding another train or three. My schedules look like this: go to provider - iron plate and wait until full, go to requestor - iron plate and wait until empty, go to depot and wait idle 1 second.

City Blocks as having good modular design layer in an inefficient container is a criticism that makes sense. It's a wonky design, but better that the whole (makes 2 to 4 belts of everything and spend resources to carry it throughout your base) that main buses asks, and people say it's an early game design.

Speaking of size, train length that will have the best time on those rails is 6 but nothing stops you from using other lengths. 2, 3 & 12 are just behind. Everything is kept highly upgradable. There also is a set of wall blueprints to protect your rails from natives. On top of that, you can find stations for aforementioned train sizes (includes ...

Those would need larger city-blocks in smelting section - ~120 tiles and ~200 tiles respectively. Make sure to actually design your train system before you take those numbers for granted though :) In my previous non-city block 2k SPM megabase I used 11-16-0 trains for ore, 5-8-0 for plates, coal and oil, 3-4-0 for everything else. Those would need larger city-blocks in smelting section - ~120 tiles and ~200 tiles respectively. I am having a hard time building a blueprint with beacons in the ...City block on the other hand makes it easy to expand, partly because you already know the size and location of the next production block and only need to place it down and partly because it automatically expands your robot network while building new blocks. They both have advantages, I'm using a mix of both right now.I started using it for my SE playthrough and now I cannot build city blocks without it. Regarding the resource calculation, if you are not using mods like Factorio Planner, I'd go big. Make each block create as many resources as possible, so that you can fill a train fast. If you have many trains incoming, you don't want them waiting for too long.

The base revolves around the following principles: - Left-handed rail system (because the signals can be on the inside) along the edges of the hexagons. This naturally makes 3-way intersections which are more efficient than 4 way intersections. - Train enters/exits on the top left/bottom right edge, and the basic design easily supports 6 train ...By 12-chunk, for every block of my base, It will not receive materials and only output a very complex stuff like the circuits. If you look at the recipes, It will require a lot of space and machines to generate and process resources. I assumed 12 chunk sized block will suffice. I can share the block base blueprint if you want. I love the style and design, but you won't have a lot of output and your UPS already is horrible and lower than the one of my (modded) which currently runs at 50kspm. Zyst • 2 yr. ago. There's two huge drawbacks of city block bases: You are space constrained. Typically train networks are limited to 1-4-0 trains while on unconstrained bases 2-8-0 trains are very commonTake my replies below with a grain of salt. City blocks work very differently for different people, and especially based on how they're used. Small details in implementation can make one city block design work perfectly in one factory and be useless deadlock in another, so just keep in mind that "if it works for your design, then it's fine" is an acceptable answer.

For 2 input blocks there is a good enough amount of room. For 3 inputs, things will be tight, but doable. For 4 inputs, there won't be much room for processing, unless bots are used. Worse case scenario I am willing to use two city blocks together, if needed. However, the 3 input case is pretty common, so the city block design should give it ...Regarding the resource calculation, if you are not using mods like Factorio Planner, I'd go big. U can make it so that the rail of that block is station itself. Or make a way in to the station. Either way works. Some blocks make it so that the block itself is a rail system that takes let say 1x1 block, while crafting area takes 3x3 block, where block is let say a chunk size. The driving philosophy of city block bases is MODULARITY. In general, each block serves exactly one purpose: produce a singular output from one or more input products. Typically, imports and exports are done by rail. Next you gotta figure out your city block design. How big will it be, and will it be square or rectangular. What I did is create an intersection. Four adjacent intersections make a single city block. Adding two more directly adjacent will create another block. As the base becomes big enough, you approach 1 intersection per city block. Those would need larger city-blocks in smelting section - ~120 tiles and ~200 tiles respectively. Make sure to actually design your train system before you take those numbers for granted though :) In my previous non-city block 2k SPM megabase I used 11-16-0 trains for ore, 5-8-0 for plates, coal and oil, 3-4-0 for everything else.Quad lane is useless once you are familiar with city blocks. The concept is that a quad lane provides more throughput. However throughout is based on intersection. Intersections are heart of city blocks. The best 2 lane intersections are rated around 1:40 trains per min while quad is 60-80.Create a base in Factorio that can expand automatically without any user input based on performance of the existing base using the minimum necessary amount of Mods.
