I've been staring at propeller numbers for a while now and thought I'd see if I can get some input from some more experienced minds here. I've recently bought my first boat, a 1993 Baja Islander 240 with a stock Merc 7.4L (non Mag, about 650 hours) and Bravo 1 Outdrive.Scott Reichow, Mercury’s Prop Guru says “I use the slip calculator daily when assisting customers with propeller questions. It is a great tool that provides much more information than just slip. Results for each of the five fields can be derived by populating the other four.” Scott walked through an outboard example on the Mercury Racing ...

Mercury Racing has released a propeller-slip calculator app for Apple and Android smartphones.

A 1.85 ratio with 12" pitch prop at 4400 can only calculate to 25mph at 10% assumed slip. The 1.85 ratio sounds off to me, just seems like a 2.0-2.3 range is more appropriate for a 50hp, but that is just me.Richard, This question concerns the relarionship of the prop''s pitch and its actual travel through the water at any given speed. You need to know this to accurately calculate the hull speed of a vessel at a given engine and therefore the prop''s RPM. Slip in % = 100 X ( Prop pitch in feet X prop rpm - vessel speed in knots devided by prop pitch in feet X prop rmp ) This is one formula to ...‎Propeller slip calculator for powerboats Plearse use this calculator to figure out all parameters in regard to pitch, gear ratio, RPM, speed and slip. Currently have a 17p prop on. at 2500 rpms on a 1.3 ration (mc-1?) we were doing about 18-19 mph - I entered that into some online calculators and it told me slip was 36%?!! That seems incredible - only a cruiser / fish boat - nothing manic. There is a 18" prop under the seat - or shd i go for 19?

Plugging in your 1.87 gear box, 5500 rpm and 17p prop I only get 47 for a theoretical speed; that's the speed if your prop were turning in a solid medium. All screws (props) running in water have some slip which would reduce the speed even further.Divide by 5280 = Miles per minute, multiply x 60 = miles per hour. This can be shortened to (Pitch x RPM) / (Reduction x 1056) = MPH. Slip is figured by comparing this theoretical speed to the actual measured speed. By the way, for these calculations, add 1" to the pitch if your prop is cupped. (Just about all hi-performance props are)Sep 30, 2015 · My slip at WOT is 23.5% (5200 rpm), and cruise is around 21% (3600 rpm). The slip is usually expressed as a percentage and can be found by using the following formula, with your calculator: Theoretical Speed minus True Speed, multiplied by 100, divided by Theoretical Speed = Percentage of Slip. e.g. using the figures supplied : 53.97 - 45 x 100 / 53.97 = 16.62% Slip. You may think the ideal slip percentage should be ...A 17" prop of similar design should give amazing hole shot ,add about 400 rpm and may improve slip. 12% is a reasonable slip,of course slip depends on the weight and style of the boat. Does anyone know what level of prop slip (using Mercury propeller slip calculator) is typical for a 2021 Ranger z521L w/300?Large “go fast” boats with special stern drives can use propeller diameters ranging from 15 inches to 18+ inches. House boats and slow moving non-planning hulls may use diameters well into the 20 and 30 inch areas. Number Of Blades. The number of blades on a propeller also affects the consumer’s decision when shopping for a new propeller.Plug in your info, and click "Calculate" on the item you want to compute. By using known values for the weight, power and speed you can come up with a more accurate constant for your boat. You can then see what effect changes to weight or power will have on top speed. We have devloped a Theoretical Speed Table which calculates theoretical speed for various RPM, propeller pitch, reduction and overdrive ratios. The difference is called SLIP and is a measure of the propeller's efficiency. Understandably, the effective pitch will be zero when you are running the engine up on the ground with wheels chocked. In flight, however, propeller efficiency increases to as high as 85% to 90% during favorable flight conditions, and propeller slip is greatly diminished.Mercury Racing has released a propeller-slip calculator app for Apple and Android smartphones.Theoretical required prop pitch in inches. Prop Slip Calculator; News; Contact Us ... Add More Weight to the Boat. One way to reduce prop slip is to add more weight to the boat. This will increase the downward force on the bow and help keep it pushed down into the water. You can add weight by filling up empty containers with water or sand and placing them in strategic locations on the boat.Just because the prop is stamped as to what the pitch is doesn't mean that is necessarily that pitch. The only real way to know is to measure the pitch instead of going by what the prop manufacturer has stamped on it. Anyway, if your prop is actually a little higher pitch than what you have calculated, you are still set-up really well. What would yall consider to be expected prop slip for a lightly loaded, riveted 1648 flat bottom with a 9.9 or 15 hp motor? I'm asking because I have this boat paired with a 1982 9.9hp Evinrude and am seeing prop slip anywhere from 20-25%. This is based off inputs of 5400 max rpms, 2.42 gear ratio, 10" pitch prop, and top speeds of 16-17 mph.

Lots of factors cause prop slip, but the best way to reduce it is to get a more efficient hull. Proper setback and balance also helps. If you have to trim way out the prop is not applying it force all in a forward direction. At the very least you lose the vector, plus driving the stern down. forrestercb.

Description. The Mercury Racing MAX 5 propeller, developed and hand-crafted by the Mercury Racing Propeller Lab, is designed for single and multiple engine applications including the Verado 400R outboard and 600 SCi sterndrive. The Lab Finished Max 5 provides a measurable reduction in propeller slip, (up to 12%).

Besides delivering an incredible hole shot and awesome acceleration, the Lightning E.T. also produces natural bow lift, reducing drag and increasing the efficiency of the boat. This adds up to higher speeds and better fuel economy, requiring less engine trim. 14.5″ diameter. 26″- 32″ pitch in even increments.Prop slip is prop slip but 39% does sound a lot high for a bravo three they tend to run in the 10% or a litle less range. as far as the hole shot s concerned you are at the bottom of the rpm range for those engines and reducing prop pitch will increase rpm and also improve holeshot. Actually I assumed a 25" prop which is what most would be running to get 6050 rpms and its 15% with the 1.81. If you figure the rpms, speed and use either 1.75 or 1.81 gears it comes up 12% for the 25" prop and 1.81 gears but you add 1" for a SS cupped prop which put the slip at 15%. So what prop are you running.
