I looked at the patent examiner hiring timeline (10-week timeline) and it says that HR reviews applications for 2 weeks AFTER the job closes! And then in week 4-6 the interviews happen.

There is an examiner in my AU from the 6/2021 academy. Only 6 other examiners from the 19 examiners that were in his lab are still here. All left on their own. Most before the end of their 1st year. A lot of the benefits of working at the PTO are now matched by other employers and now the pay is lagging.In general an examiner might have the knowledge to understand a variety of types of applications, but specializing is definitely a feature. A typical examiner in this area needs to do 3 or more applications in a week to meet production.
