It's a fine gun, but a rough booger to shoot. Got the Max just recently- for 2 main reasons: it holds 10/12 rounds and it's 380. Figuring the 380 would be an easier shooter- I was wrong. The Max is rough. The main issue with the Max is it is too light and the barrel (like on the Sig) is just too short.The main differences between the two models are as follows: Grip length: The Ruger LCP has a short grip, while the Ruger LCP Max has a longer grip that provides a more comfortable and secure grip for some shooters. The biggest difference is the weight. The Max shoots a lot softer than the II. As far as recoil, I typically shoot a snub nose 357 so it's hard to judge. It's probably about the same snappiness as the P365.. you've got a less powerful round, but less weight.
