My style and how it has served me today: As a modern penman, I vacillate between using a more formal early 18th century "copperplate" or "round-hand" to a more relaxed form similar to Spencerian depending on the situation. It always attracts attention regardless if I write with a quill, nib or modern pen. As a child, I hated writing.
