03-14-2018 05:32 PM. I installed Verizon Fios less than one year ago. At that time they installed an old ONT model made in 2002. Recently the ONT died and Verizon replaced it for a new one. The new ONT is really small and the technician did not install any enclosure that protects the fiber-optics as they had done with the old ONT.

The ONT models Fios uses runs MoCA on a different frequency than the typical MoCA adapters you find on the market. There's only ever one made for that frequency, the MEB1100 made for Frontier Fios (they use the same equipment as Verizon Fios).
The only thing the ONT does is convert light to electrical signals. There is system access to the ONT, but only for provisioning, system diagnostics, troubleshooting and things of that nature. Just FYI though, all ISPs can see what websites you go to, unless you use a VPN, but that a whole other topic. So your fears of the ONT are unwarranted.
