The pet drop rates were designed incredibly weirdly. Giant seaweed, mushrooms, belladonna, regular cactus, then the big patches, Hespori, and then fruit trees and trees (only trees scaled by type of tree). So yeah.. regular XP method I'm pretty sure is ~180m XP to hit pet rate. But doing just pet patches you'll hit rate before you're 99.

Yeah. OSRS has skilling pets, but not for every skill. Agility, woodcutting, mining, fishing, farming, thieving, and runecraft have pets you get for almost any method of training the skill, and then hunter has 2 different pets for specific things that you hunt.
