because meter resets when you drop selected item so if you pick core then you drop a core before maxing the meter out then it resets so the idea is to stack up XP, drop core, nothing happens, then at 900k xp select core and get it next kill so like you essentially guarantee +1 core but like yea you don't get the extra drop chances
