Personal preference. My opinion is that the C was the peak of the workmanship for the Model 52. My observation (based on use of the 52C for competition) was that the consistency of the workmanship seemed very good. The later 52D also seemed to be a good rifle, much simpler (therefore cheaper to produce) than the 52C.
